IN THE SPOTLIGHT

07-26-2010 From Galilee to South Tyrol
One rarely gets a bizarre idea which in fact turns out to be solid project, even bearing  extremely interesting developments. If  a few years ago I had been told there was a link between the German speaking Alto-Adige (also known as South Tyrol or Südtirol), an area with one of the highest pro capita incomes in Europe whose local cuisine includes a thousand and one ways of cooking pork, and the Israeli Palestinians of Nazareth or Haifa, who are not as rich and mostly Muslims, I would have told them they had a very vivid imagination. .. continue

06-14-2010 Reopen Gaza: don’t just say it, do it

A more comprehensive approach to the major incident which took place in the sea off the Gaza Strip. The fact that many of the passengers on the Marmara were not followers of Ghandi’s non violence is quite clear, but more so is the inadequacy  of the Israeli intelligence and of the military and political people in charge of the operation. The Israeli leadership appears unable to assess the impact of its decisions, underestimating possible consequences. This inability speaks of a basic lack of understanding of how the world and the international relations have changed... continue

Message from the President of the Italian Republic, Mr Giorgio Napolitano
I am pleased to express my warmest appreciation for CIPMO’s  activity on its twentieth anniversary and would like to express my best wishes for a fruitful prosecution of their work. I still remember the international conference organized in November 1989 which marked the foundation of your centre, which I attended and where I had the pleasure to draw the conclusions. At the time I felt new hopes for dialogue opening and that peace was possible, however difficult the pathway was... continue

Editorial by Janiki Cingoli

Twenty years ago, in November 1989, the Centro Italiano per la Pace in Medio Oriente (CIMPO, the Italian Centre for Peace in the Middle East) was established by the Region Lombardy, the Province and the City of Milan. Promoters included prominent personalities from all sides of the political and cultural spectrum ranging from the current President of the Republic to the Life Senator and Noble Prize Winner Rita Levi Montalcini, who has been our Honorary Chairperson ever since... continue
